Instructions
Make a Simple Syrup
Combine the granulated sugar with half a cup of water in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Bring to a gentle simmer for 2 minutes until slightly syrupy, then remove from heat and let the simple syrup cool to room temperature for about 15 minutes.
Combine and Chill
Stir the fresh orange juice and lemon juice into the cooled simple syrup until fully combined into a bright orange liquid. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed. Pour the mixture into a shallow freezer-safe dish or a standard loaf pan and place in the freezer for 1 hour until the edges begin to freeze.
Freeze and Scrape
Every 30 minutes for the next 3 hours, scrape the partially frozen sorbet vigorously with a fork, breaking up ice crystals and stirring the frozen edges into the center to create a light, fluffy texture. After the final scrape when it reaches a uniform slushy-solid consistency, scoop into chilled bowls and serve immediately or store covered.
