Instructions

1

Prepare the Bananas

Use very ripe bananas with plenty of brown spots on the peel as they will be sweeter, creamier, and blend much more smoothly than underripe bananas for a better tasting agua fresca.

2

Blend Until Creamy

Add the sliced ripe bananas, cold water, milk, ground cinnamon, and sugar to a blender. Blend on high speed for 90 seconds until the mixture is completely smooth, creamy, and frothy.

3

Taste and Adjust

Taste the blended banana agua fresca and adjust the sweetness and cinnamon to your liking. If the consistency is too thick add another half cup of cold water and blend briefly to combine.

4

Serve Immediately

Pour the agua de platano immediately over ice filled glasses as bananas oxidize quickly and the drink will darken if left sitting. Dust each glass with a pinch of cinnamon for a beautiful finish.

Substitutions

whole milkoat milk or coconut milk for a delicious dairy free vegan banana agua fresca
sugarskip the sugar entirely when using very ripe bananas as they provide sufficient natural sweetness

Common mistakes

Using underripe bananas which makes the agua fresca taste starchy and bland rather than naturally sweet and creamy
Making the agua de platano too far in advance as bananas oxidize rapidly causing the beautiful pale yellow color to turn an unappetizing brown
