Instructions

1

Juice the Roots

Feed the peeled turmeric and ginger through a juicer. If you do not have a juicer add both roots to a high speed blender with the filtered water and blend until completely pulverized.

2

Strain the Mixture

If using a blender pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh sieve or nut milk bag pressing firmly to extract all the liquid. Discard the remaining pulp or save it for smoothies.

3

Combine All Ingredients

Add the fresh lemon juice honey black pepper cayenne and sea salt to the strained turmeric ginger liquid. Whisk or stir vigorously until the honey is fully dissolved and everything is combined.

4

Taste and Adjust

Taste the shot and adjust flavor as needed. Add more honey if the shot is too spicy or more lemon if it needs brightness. Do not skip the black pepper as it increases turmeric absorption by up to 2000 percent.

5

Pour and Store

Pour into small 1 ounce shot glasses and serve immediately. Store any remaining shots in a sealed glass jar in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Shake well before each use.

Substitutions

fresh turmeric root1 tsp of ground turmeric powder per inch of fresh root
raw honeymaple syrup for a fully vegan version
fresh lemon juicefresh orange juice for a sweeter and milder flavor

Common mistakes

Skipping the black pepper which dramatically reduces the bioavailability of curcumin the active compound in turmeric
Using ground ginger instead of fresh ginger which produces a much weaker and less potent wellness benefit
Storing the shots in plastic containers which can stain and absorb the strong turmeric flavor permanently
